She rarely barks, except when we arrive home; then she lets loose from joy at seeing us. For someone looking for a bigger dog that is the ultimate lover, cuddler, snuggler, and a HARD sleeper, Smokey is it.
Hello! My name is Smokey! They say I am most likely a catahoula/cattle dog mix, although no one seems to know for sure.I know I lived on a farm out in the country and had a good life, but then my people went away and I found myself in the small town of Jasper, following some other dogs around. While crossing the street, something hit me and I was lying on the courthouse lawn when a nice lady named Dawn from the cafe found me and brought me water and talked to me and petted me. Then a man named Jeff and his wife and brother came and took me to his vet's office. I was so scared--I thought I was dying. I could not stand up or even see very good, and my legs hurt. The vet said I had a concussion, a broken tail, and some cuts. I spent 2 nights at the vet's, then Jeff and Linda took me home. The cuts began to heal, my concussion cleared up and I began to wag my tail a little. I love it at Jeff and Linda's--they have 7 other dogs to play with. I am a very good girl. I NEVER make a mess inside, I don't fight, I know some commands, and I love to sit on the couch and snuggle with Jeff or Linda. At night I sleep on my bed right next to theirs. I have a deep bark, but the only time I use it is when my people come home. I love my people very much but since there are so many dogs here, they think I might get more attention in another place that could be my forever home. The vet thinks I am about 4. I have been spayed and I hardly shed at all. I still have a slight limp, but I can run and jump now. I weigh about 50 pounds, but am slowly gaining weight. My people say I have huge paws, but I think they are just right. If you think I might be just the right loving companion for you, please contact Jeff or Linda for more info. I promise I would love you forever. Sincerely, pretty Smokey

We've been receiving more inquiries then ever before and it is taking me longer then normal to respond to them. Please understand that we are a volunteer organization. It may take a day or two to respond to your questions, so please be patient with us. We also had to stop taking phone calls temporarily because of the volume of calls and the time needed on the phone with perspective adopters on a daily basis. I will be more then happy to call and explain the entire adoption process if you are serious about adopting a dog. Please email your questions and I will respond as quickly as possible.
